Two More Service Projects for Crafters!

Lest you think I've not been knitting during my blogging absence...

Craft Hope has another great service project lined up. For Project 14 :: Christmas in Dixie they are asking for hand-made holiday stockings for victims of the most recent spat of tornadoes in the South. 12,000 families lost their homes, and that includes all of the wonderful, cherished holiday decorations and treasures collected over the years. A new holiday stocking doesn't seem like much, but it could certainly add a bright spot to what will probably be a less-than-perfect holiday season for a lot of families.

So, since I MUST knit EVERYTHING, I am knitting up some stockings to send along.

Stockings can be sewn, knitted, or crocheted. But, you'll need to get on this one, as the deadline is September 23.

The other project I'm working on is the "Knit-A-Squillion" challenge. Can you knit or crochet an 8" x 8" square? Can you learn to knit or crochet a square? Then you can do this! And, even better, you've got almost a YEAR to send in your squares!

All For Orphans is working on collecting hand-made blankets for South African orphans and at-risk kids. Rather than asking crafters to commit to making a full blanket, they are asking for 8" squares to be sent to their organization. Once the squares reach South Africa, volunteers there will sew all of the squares together to make the blankets. Brilliant! They want to collect 1.2 million squares by July 10, 2012. So, you've got lots of time to make as many squares as you can. Just think how many odds and ends of yarn you could use up on this project! Doubly Brilliant!
